Habaneras
One of the town’s most important cultural events is the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest, declared of International Tourism Interest, a form of singing with Caribbean origins resulting from the comings and goings of Torrevieja seamen to those lands. Every year, at the end of July, you can enjoy this sound on the seashore, in the old part, where years ago the Torrevieja salt miners would stack the salt for it to be transported to the merchant ships. In addition to the Contest and is celebrated, during the same month, the “Habaneras Night at the Beach”where sitting in the sand of Playa del Cura, you can listen the most popular habaneras.
